Lucet History
The earliest lucet found has been dated to the time of the Vikings. We know that they were used in Europe from at least the 16th century until the beginning of the 19th. Beautiful examples from Georgian workboxes can still be found today.

Lucet braiding fell out of favor when commercially-made cord became available. Also known as chain forks or hay forks, these tools are used to make a square cord suitable for costume embellishment or as ties for sleeves or corset lacing. The size of the cord made is dependent upon the size of the thread used - from the finest silk to sturdy cotton or linen.

Our Hand-Crafted, Custom-Made Lucets
Our beautiful tools are handmade of oak, walnut, or other woods, such as purpleheart (dark with a purplish hue), padauk (reddish), shiduah (dark brown), and any others that we might find suitable or available. Designs may vary from those shown as they are hand-turned and finished.

Lucets with handles are approximately 9" long by 3 1/4" wide. Lucets without handles are approximately 4 1/2" long by 3" wide. View our sample lucets for sale.
